history in the making

Yesterday was Blue Monday with grey skies, sleet and sloth. But today there's a fresh feel in the air and a wide, gaping blueness in the sky. "That's the way I like it ah ha" - as sung by KC and the sunshine band! It just came on the radio as if by magic! Oh yeah today's inauguration day for Obama and one of the greatest days in history. How humble that on the eve of becoming a superpower, he spent time as a superhero working in a homeless shelter, slapping paint on the walls. It fills me with a deep well of hope that at last, after a century of oppression and political murkiness, America has finally gotten on the yellow brick road. I'll certainly be tuning in for the whole glitzy ceremony and probably cry with joy at the whole thing...just wish I could be there with Fonty enjoying a moment in history!  Anyway another fitting song came on the radio...by Harold Melvin and the Bluenotes "the world won't get no better if we just let it be - we gotta change again you and me."

Miracles can happen

TS Eliot was wrong - January is the cruellest month. The wasteland when the trees are skeletal, the nights long and dark and your thoughts turn black. When all that's left of the jollity and frivolity of Christmas is a sinking 'glass-half-full-feeling' of economic armageddon, we're in need of a miracle or three. And as if by magic - Friday saw a airliner land on water, Saturday saw a ceasefire in Gaza and tomorrow is Obama's historic inauguration. Enough said.
